DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA

Upon arrival in Accra you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel.

Together with your driver and guide, decide on this afternoon's activities.

DAY 2: ACCRA

After breakfast departs on a full day sightseeing tour of Accra and vicinity.

You will drive through the administrative and economic areas of Accra, Ghana’s capital city. You will visit the W. E. B. Dubois Center for Pan African Culture. Continue to Black Star Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (the tomb of Ghana’s first President.

Drive by OSU Castle (also known as Christiansborg Castle), constructed by Denmark in the 1600s and which has been the seat of government from 1876 to the present.

Continue to the National Theater to see a display of traditional instruments and carvings including "male" and "female" handcrafted drums. Visit the National Museum where you will see traditional crafts and other ethnographic displays among other unique items.

DAY 3: FORT AMSTERDAM/ CAPE COAST

After breakfast, travel along the beautiful coastal road to the historic Cape Coast Castle. En route visit the village of Abanzi . Continue to Fort Amsterdam to see the fishermen bargaining for the best prices for the daily catch. In the late afternoon tour the Cape Coast Castle and historical museum.

DAY 4: CAPE COAST/ ELMINA

Early morning excursion to the Kakum National Park. Escorted tour of the of 2 kilometer long Kuntan Trail, trek through the tropical forest with natures medicinal plants and herbs. The optional, very adventurous and exciting walk on the Canopy Walkway is recommended for those who do not fear heights. In the afternoon you will have a conducted tour through the Elmina Castle, a World Heritage Site. This castle is the earliest known European building on the coast of Africa, built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as the main auction market and garrison for the slave trade. Of special interest are the slave dungeons, the auction market and the Portuguese Church. A visit to the Elmina fish market ends todays program.

DAY 5: CAPE COAST/ KUMASI

After breakfast, depart to the capital of the Ashanti Region. The Ashanti forms the biggest population group in Ghana. For centuries they were the rulers in this region because of their well organized society. In the afternoon you will visit the Manhyia Palace where disputes are still settled in accordance with the centuries old customs, and the asanteheni "the Ashanti king" has the final word.

DAY 6: KUMASI

After breakfast we will visit the Kumasi Central Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa, where more than 10.000 traders ply their wares. Continue with visits to the Ashanti craft villages starting with the Woodcarving Village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls.

Our second stop is the village of Ntonso where Artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles that are worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Our third village is Bonwire where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms, in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations.

DAY 7: KUMASI

After breakfast we will continue the tour of Kumasi with a tour of the former home of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary female general who led Ashanti Armies against British Forces in 1900

Continue your tour of this historic city with visits to the National Cultural Center which includes the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and several studious of skilled metal workers, pottery makers and batik makers.

DAY 8: MOLE NATIONAL PARK

After early breakfast, we depart for our long drive partly through rough terrain for a visit to the largest Nature Park in Ghana, Mole National Park. Viewing en route the Savannah grassland, fascinating architecture sparsely dotted along the way. You will notice the obvious contrast in Cultures and life styles between the Southern and the Northern regions of Ghana. We stop at Larabanga to admire the ancient mosque and the magic stone, drive on to the Mole National Park, where we can watch the wildlife from the terrace of your motel where the animals come to drink and bath in the lake.

DAY 9: MOLE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast take a foot safari, accompanied by the park’s experienced guide, in search of elephants and other animals in the wild. This afternoon relax on your verandah as you observe the animals drinking and bathing at the water hole.

DAY 10: KINT AMPO WATERFALLS / TECHIMAN

Early morning departure to Techiman. After checking into your hotel take an excursion to the Kintampo waterfalls. Techiman is important because of its strategic position as crossroads for traffic from all regions of Ghana and to and from neighboring countries. Visit the market where you will find a wide assortment of pottery and other crafts.

DAY 11: BOABENG FIEMA MONKEY SANCTUARY

Today visit the "Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary", where about 14 monkey colonies thrive. You may also visit the impressive Grotto near Techiman.

DAY 12: ADA FOAH

Travel to the coastal area where the Volta river meets the sea at Ada Foah. You will pass through several villages of interest where we will make several brief stops. Villages include: Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Somanya, Afienya and Dawenya. Check into Manet Paradise Beach Resort where you may enjoy water sports or just relax at the beach or poolside.

DAY 13: ADA FOAH

Spend the day on the Volta Lake in a small boat with stops at several small islands. Return to the resort for dinner and overnight.
