DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA

Arrive at Kotoka International Airport, transfer and check in to hotel.

Visit Independence Square (also known as Black Star Square), Independence Arch, and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (the mausoleum of Ghana’s first President). *NOTE: Afternoon arrivals will visit these sites on Day 7.

Evening at leisure.

DAY 2: ACCRA / KOKROBRITE BEACH / ACCRA

After breakfast, visit a local casket making shop to see a collection of caskets carved in the shapes of various objects depicting traditional beliefs in life after death. The "Fantasy Coffins" of Teshie Nungua have been featured in National Geographic and can be found in museums and galleries worldwide.

In the early afternoon, arrive at Kokrobrite Beach for lunch at Big Milly’s Backyard, famous throughout West Africa for its fresh fish, roasted vegetable dishes, and elevated dining area overlooking the beach. After lunch, two exciting hours of drumming and cultural dancing lessons with the experts at Kokrobrite Drumming Center.

DAY 3: ACCRA / CAPE COAST

After breakfast, depart Accra for Cape Coast. Tour Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa.

Continue to Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous Door of No Return.

DAY 4: CAPE COAST

Impress your friends and family for years to come with the traditional recipes you will learn in your Ghanaian Cooking Workshop. Learn to make fufu, ground nut soup, red red, and palava sauce. Sample some of Ghana's most popular foods. *NOTE: All dishes are made with purified water.

DAY 5: CAPE COAST / KUMASI

After breakfast, depart Cape Coast.

Continue with visits to the Ashanti craft villages starting with Pankrono, where potters create colorful hand-built vessels. Proceed to the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls. Our next stop is the village of Ntonso where artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make adinkra textiles worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Our final village is Bonwire where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms, in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations.

In the late afternoon, arrive in Adanwomaase Kente village, where you will be welcomed by the Kente Chief with traditional music and dance for a cultural afternoon with a demonstration of Kente weaving.

DAY 6: KUMASI / ACCRA

After breakfast we will visit the Kumasi Central Market (also known as Kejetia Market), the largest open-air market in West Africa, where more than 10,000 vendors sell their wares. Here you will find just about everything you could need or want - food, fabric, clothing, furniture, beauty products, and handmade crafts of all kinds.

Continue to Accra.

DAY 7: DEPART ACCRA

Afternoon at leisure. Depart to airport for onward flight.
