DAY 2 (Monday): ACCRA CITY TOUR

After breakfast start your city tour of Accra and vicinity. You will visit the W.E.B. Dubois Center and library. Visit Black Star Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (the tomb of Ghana’s first President. Pass by Independence Arch-Accra's ceremonial grounds. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner and receive your African name in a traditional naming ceremony.

DAY 3 (Tuesday): ACCRA CITY TOUR CONTINUES

Today we will continue to explore Accra, Ghana’s capital city and seat of Government. After lunch, visit a local casket making shop to see a collection of caskets carved in the shape of different objects, depicting traditional beliefs in life after death. The “Fantasy Coffins” of Teshie Nungua have been featured in National Geographic and can be found in museums and galleries worldwide.

Our tour of Accra continues with visits to the Artists Alliance Gallery and the Loom Art Gallery where on display are authentic art works by renowned Ghanaian Artists.

DAY 4 (Wednesday): ACCRA

DAY 5 (Thursday): ACCRA / CAPE COAST-ELMINA

Depart for a drive to the Central Region to tour the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. Visit the Cape Coast Castle which was built in 1653. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in 1994. After lunch, visit the Elmina Castle (St. Georges Castle) built in 1482... This castle was the first European structure built in Sub – Saharan Africa. The view of the colorful harbor nestle below the Elmina Castle, full of pirogues preparing to go to sea offers one of West Africa’s best picture perfect opportunities. Dinner and overnight in Cape Coast.

DAY 6 (Friday): KAKUM NATIONAL PARK / POSUBAN

Early morning departure for a drive through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Extending over 360sq km, Kakum is the home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species as well as many species of butterflies, flora and fauna. The most popular attraction is the Canopy walkway which is made up of seven bridges extending 330m, hanging 30m (100 feet) above the forest floor. Choose between a nature walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway. After lunch visit the Posuban Military Shrine where Fanti traditional soldiers engaged in spiritual preparation for battle. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Cape Coast.

DAY 7 (Saturday): CAPE COAST/KUMASI

After breakfast depart to Kumasi, the realm of the ancient Ashanti Kingdom of Gold. En route we will visit the “Slave River” at Assin Manso where captured Africans had their last bath before being confined in the Slave Dungeons to await shipment to the Americas. Continue to Kumasi where we arrive late afternoon. Time permitting; we will vvisit the home of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary female general who led Ashanti Armies against British Forces in 1900.

DAY 8 (Sunday): KUMASI THE ASHANTI CAPITAL

After breakfast we will visit the Kumasi Central Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa, where more than 10.000 traders ply their wares. Continue with visits to the Ashanti craft villages starting with the Woodcarving Village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls. Our second stop is the village of Ntonso where Artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles that are worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Our third village is Bonwire where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms, in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. Time permitting we will visit to Manhiyia Palace and museum where we will learn the history of the Ashanti people. Dinner and overnight your hotel.

DAY 9 (Monday): BUABENG FIEMA MONKEY SANCTUARY

Early morning depart from Kumasi to the village of Buabeng Fiema where Sacred Monkeys live in harmony with the community. You will likely interact with the monkeys. In the afternoon return drive to Lake Bosomtwi where you may cruise on the lake. Return to Kumasi for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10 (Tuesday): KUMASI/ACCRA

Mid morning we will return to Accra stopping at points of interest en-route including Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, the first commercial Cocoa farm in Ghana. You will touch the actual Cocoa pods. Cocoa is Ghana’s largest export and is used to blend some of the world’s finest chocolates. Continue to Aburi Botanical Gardens where you will learn about the cultural and medicinal importance of the trees in these gardens. Continue to Accra arriving early evening. This evening enjoy the Gala New Years Eve Festivities at the hotel as we usher in the new year.
